ACCOUNTANCY and business advisory group RMT has scored a contract win with the Newcastle Falcons as the rugby club looks to step up its corporate hospitality activity.

The Newcastle-based company has added the Aviva Premiership team to its growing portfolio of clients at a time when the sports club are targeting growth in their commercial revenue streams.

While RMT’s team of experts will serve as the Falcons’ auditors, the Gosforth firm has also invested in becoming one of the club’s corporate hospitality partners.

RMT’s commercial services manager Paul Gainford said: “As the Falcons look ahead to what will hopefully be a successful season on the field of play, we are delighted to be able to work with the team off the pitch to ensure they are well placed to continue to strengthen their commercial performance.”

RMT has snapped up one of the last remaining corporate boxes at the Falcons’ Kingston Park home for the new season, becoming one of a band of North East companies that will be able to offer networking opportunities to its clients and enjoy the top flight rugby.

In recent years, dwindling sponsorship, advertising and commercial sales revenue have left many sporting businesses struggling to remain in the black.

However, the Falcons have fought back by bringing their hospitality services back in-house in a move that has helped to make improvements on the level of quality and service they can offer customers and clients.

The club have also made a number of key appointments to their corporate hospitality and sales team to ramp up their off-the-field activity – including the recruitment of new conference and events director Jane Shepstone.

Mark Foster, commercial director at The Falcons, said: “With our new team and with RMT now on board, we are massively confident that we have made huge improvements to the services and packages we can offer.

“We have certainly seen an upturn in our corporate sales activity since we brought everything back in-house to drive up the quality of our offering.”
